Past
If anyone asks I won't lie, I wasn't the biggest fan of Cincinnati growing up. But as I matured, the city matured and I excitedly watched it's renaissance. Heading into my fifth year at The University of Cincinnati, I'm the biggest fan of this school you can find.
As a participant in the INTERalliance of Greater Cincinnati in my very formative high school years, I was introduced to endless career opportunities. At Mother of Mercy, I was allowed many opportunities to give back and help positively shape the community around me. And I didn't realize the gift I was being given at the time but my parents went above and beyond to immerse me in cultural experiences that gave me a perspective far beyond the 275 loop. When I visited UC I fell in love and I knew that keeping my roots here in Cincinnati's growing business community as I became a business student was the right choice. Now is the perfect time to be a Queen City citizen and I'm glad to be taking advantage of all that is offered here and proud to be giving back and trying to improve the school and city that I love as best I can. |
Present - "Alta Petit "
I am so immensely proud to be a Bearcat. It's hard to put into a short paragraph what my education, experience and the people at UC mean to me but I happily spend 90-100 minutes telling prospective students once a week. I recently reflected on the deep belief I have in UC and her mission and values in my year in review but if you'd like to catch the live version, I invite you to join me on a campus tour Friday mornings at 9am each week this fall.
I believe that a lot of the truly lasting value I am getting out of the days I spend at UC are in the relationships I'm building while I'm here and the way I spend my time reflects that. I love helping serve those around me who are on campus while paying forward the UC experience as a tour guide, Lindner Ambassador and Honors Ambassador as well. I believe that some of the greatest value I can create is in lifting as I climb.
During the four years I've been a student at UC, I have been to 14 countries (Ireland, Haiti, Peru, England, Belgium, Austria, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Switzerland, Vatican City, Spain, France and Nicaragua), worked professionally for three Fortune 500 companies (Fifth Third Bank, Kroger and CenturyLink) and through involvement, relationships, service and other experiences have been able to refine the goals I set for myself when matriculating.
Alta Petit is one of the University of Cincinnati mottoes meaning "she seeks the highest."

Future
One way I decided to define success during my first full time internship was having a satisfying professional career without having to sit at a desk 40 hours a week. When I entered college, I thought I wanted to be an IT Project Manager at a big company. I loved working in PM/Analyst roles at GE Aviation and Fifth Third Bank and still had 5 co-op rotations left before graduation and a blank slate.
The beauty of the co-op program is having the opportunity to refine the path as we go and try jobs on for size. I equate it to dating before you get married. What's so amazing about the education that co-op gives you is that you don't know what you don't know. Being a project manager was one of the only jobs I knew about that sounded appealing when I was in high school. I have said with great truth that now I know of so many jobs I would love, the hard part is going to be choosing what path to pursue.
At the end of my first co-op from Kroger I had lunch with my former manager from KnowledgeWorks and she mentioned that if you can make what you enjoy doing in your free time your career, there's a huge chance that you'll love it and it won't feel like work. "Have you ever thought of selling technology?" she asked. After a great discussion, I walked away thinking it was something I'd like to try for a co-op.
After working in the Cincinnati sales office for CenturyLink, I realized that sales is indeed a very motivating space for me and I continue to thank God for the co-op program. I got to live the dream over the summer Orange County California while co-op'ing for Paycom. In August of 2016, I accepted a full time job with Paycom in OC and will be starting full time there in June 2017, following graduation.
I am excited to pursue a career in software sales after college and begin to live out the ideal that I enrolled in co-op to find. Down the road, I might explore many other passions, whether that be entrepreneurship, writing and speaking, education or maybe consulting, I look forward to using my gifts to serve others and be able to take my parents around the world.

Why?
I view my career as an enabler for the rest of my life. Put differently, I work with the goal of obtaining financial freedom. Only with financial freedom can we gain time freedom. Time freedom leads to service freedom which I believe is the ultimate goal: a life lived in love and service to others. Many blessings have been bestowed upon me... many more than I deserve and I give God all the glory for that.
